Yemen 2007

After 3.5 years I have decided it was time to post some pictures of the camp that I work in. Working in a camp is obviously different than the corporate world. The best thing about it is I get to wear coveralls. Work begins at 06:00 am and end at 6:00 pm with 90 minutes for lunch. This is for 35 strait days. After this, I am certainly ready for time off.

The trip from Calgary goes like this:

Calgary to Frankfurt 9.5 hours
3 hour layover in Frankfurt
Frankfurt to Dubai 5.5 hours
11 hour overnight layover in Dubai
2 hour bus ride from Dubai to Abu Dhabi
3 hour layover in Abu Dhabi
2 hour flight from Abu Dhabi to Mukalla, Yemen
40 minute twin otter flight from Mukalla to desert
40 minute bus to camp

This is about 36 hours or so of travel time and on the way out it take even longer. I now have enough air miles to get me to Saturn.

I spent my second Christmas in Yemen in 2007. It is not that bad. Great food and we get ½ days off on Xmas Day and New Years Day so I get to play lots of tennis.

The camp has new accommodations, great food, a decent gym that I don’t go and good living conditions overall.

Next entry: St. Patrick's Day in Yemen
