[Just a few notes from what I recollect-- I had no journal entries for this day.] Got back into Stockholm. Visited city hall and the tower. The tower has a very interesting interior, with interesting statues (even to me!), fascinating narrow stairways and a great view at the top. It was a beautiful, sunny and clear day! Got a lot of exercise walking the steps. Paid for the tour of city hall. Inadvertently got mixed in with a bunch of Brits on a packaged bus tour, with their own guide. Their tour of city hall was abridged. I didn’t realize my mistake until we were advised to visit gift store and get back onto bus!
Did more random sightseeing via foot, bus, streetcar and subway, during which I came upon a memorable streetcar conductor. She was short, matronly, bespectacled and wore sensible shoes. She also had a memorable Mona Lisa-like smile fixed on her lips as she performed her duties. I’ll forever kick myself for not getting a photo!
Got back to Uppsala around 6:00pm and realized I had no clear idea how I would get to the Hasslo airport in Vasteras to catch my RyanAir flight at noon the next day (a Sunday). Vasteras is to Stockholm like Ontario is to L.A. Fortunately, a live ticket agent was available to help me. Thought I could catch a local train directly to Vasteras from Uppsala or via Stockholm, but none would get me there well before noon. However, the ticket agent sold train AND bus tickets and she was able to find two bus departures that would get me there in time. It would cost $15-- drat! Went to bed. --END 14 JULY--
