Trip starts-- LAX to Philadelphia to Dublin

2007-06-24, Los Angeles, United States

Got up about 3:00am, after getting only 2-3 hours of sleep. Packing at the last minute, and Mom was up to help me, thank God. Very disorganized, but I finally got it all together. Ate two burritos for breakfast before leaving.

Got to LAX when I intended to, but had rented a car and needed to drop it off. Got into the loop around LAX but was unable to find where the drop-off was! Started to panic, but drove out of the loop onto Sepulveda Blvd., I think, and there I saw signs leading to the rental car places. Drop-off was as easy and fast as could be, but I neglected to top off the gas tank, so Avis gouged me with the final bill.

At the terminal, lines to security check were packed. Got through it all right-- it was not as bad as I expected. Was way too early and felt horrible while waiting at least two hours to board the U.S. Airways flight. Had expensive McDonald’s fish filet and felt marginally better. Finally got on plane.

Both legs of trip featured completely packed planes, and there was the potential for a lot of anger. But, everybody got along very nicely and the crew from Philadelphia to Dublin was especially good despite a lot of problems not under their control. I was able to catch up on some of my sleep. I would not be sleeping in a bed overnight!
--END 24 JUNE--

Next entry: I arrive in Dublin the first time
