Well, I´ve done 3 days now at the day care centre and I´m knackered ! Luckily for me (and the babies) I´ve managed to avoid the babies since the first day. In the morning I tend to keep and eye on the 3 year olds, playing lego and stuff but I have to admit I find this part a real struggle. I don't think I'm very good with them, I have no patience when they have one of their regular tantrums and I get bored with them easily ... actually I'm a bit like a 3 year old !
But I´ve been spending more time with the older kids which is much better. There are 5 girls called Marie Jesus, Marie Jose, Ashley, Hillary and Alexa and they are very keen to sit around and learn a bit of English. I got some alphabet cards and bought them some coloured pens today and they did really well.
Some of the older lads are a good laugh, Ignacio, Keilo and Steven enjoy basically running around and any game with a football or me lifting them up to places they can´t reach seems good for them. Who needs a gym eh - I´ve got my own weights with those lads.
Today me and one of the tias (the women who work in the centre) took 8 of the kids out to a local park which was fun but also bloody exhausting !
I have 2 weeks here at the centre then I can decide if I want to change or stick with it. At the moment I´m not sure. Although the area is supposed to be a "poor" neighbourhood, to me it doesn´t seem that different to where I´m living and comparatively speaking they aren´t poor if you look at Guatemala or Nicaragua. It´s probably too early to judge. It´s fun with the older kids and I like the fact I have the freedom to do what I want, when I want, I can do as many or as few hours as I want ! Also the experience will be good for me for when I get to Ecuador.
Anyway, I can´t decide what to do this weekend .... hmmm ... shall I get a bus to Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean which apparently has a great beach or should I head up to Guanacaste and go to Playa Coco, another great beach ... decisions decisions !!! I wonder what the weather is like back in England .. tee hee !
