New Years Eve in Copacabana

If you have a few thousand dollars lying around, consider investing it here in late December. I will admit that it’s a little crowded, but that’s only because so many people want to experience it.

As the year ends, everyone filters into Copacabana beach wearing white. (Now the tradition has been modified and you can wear red, pink, yellow, green - each color inciting a different form of luck. You might be interested to know that red, at least from what I was told, is a signal for sex. Efficient.) Music, food, dancing, fireworks that momentarily dye the surface of the water pastel shades, waves rushing to your bare feet. It’s a really nice way to start off the New Year. (Though, up until 6 years ago, the fireworks were launched on land. A man on the beach was killed amidst the festivities. But I digress.)

It is a really lovely way to start off the New Year. Just be prepared for the worst traffic of your life after the fact. My advice is to hire a private jet, or get a lift from a friend who owns a fire truck.

Feliz Ano Novo!
