Feliz Navidad

2007-12-22, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

Or tour started on the Saturday. It´s not really a tour. As a group we get from town to town, share accommodation and sometimes share dinner but otherwise everyone´s free to do what they want, when they want etc. Perfect. Our group of 12 is half made up of ozzies too.

We had a day in Cancun before this but it wasn´t all that exciting. But Playa Del Carmen is. For example, Babe´s noodle bar is kickass. I should have measured them but really the margarita and daqiris come in GIANT cups and are piled at least 8cm above the cup, they are huuuge and the food is amazing. We had dinner and drinks with our group then headed out to some musician run bar that was supposed to play folk, blues & reggae type stuff but they were doing a comedy show. We got in for free because it was in Spanish but we couldn´t understand anything. The show was all about making fun of all the tourists that come to Playa in December. Halfway we tried to make a stealthy ninja exit because a comedy show you can´t understand is boring but Madi smashed her glass on the floor on the way out. Madi is now un-ninja.

Next day was pretty big. We got the ferry to Cozumel island and took a trip to snorkel 3 parts on the world´s 2nd largest reef. I spotted 50 pesos in the water and Madi dived to get it so we got rich.... a bit. And we got photos taken of us underwater with the fish looking VERY silly. Awesome photos. And we swam from the 2nd to the 3rd location of perfect crystal clear turquoise waters. And because the water got so deep between the reefs it felt like we had just started flying even higher. Had tasty japanese for lunch that came with free internet and a free international phone call. I tried to call home but got the dialling number wrong. Sorry mum! I broke my shoes and had to walk around barefoot for a while so we drank some more cocktails and went back to Playa.

Then I finally got my nose pierced. One on each side of my nose in celebration of learning how to sneeze and also finally acquiring a sense of smell. OOOOUCH! It hurt soo much. Not the straight and painful needle-goes-in-jewellery-goes-in type of pain. It was awkward and there was tugging and pulling and many different types of painful pains. BUT it was worth it. Then we walked all the way into the dirty ghettoish part of town to get to the bar that is in a cave but they shut just as we got there. Lame. So we went to the blues bar and had some tasty drinks there.

Tooooday we went to Tulum to see some Mayan ruins which are set on the beach. You can swim within the walls of the ruins be we didn´t really have time. I chased some pretty butterflies around and fed flowers to the iguanas. Some guy had giant fatty orange iguana that I fell in love with. Now I want an iguana. For dinner tonight we had a huge picnic on the beach with our tour group where we drank wine and ate well and talked about difference between jello and jelly and jam and cookies and biscuits and all important things like that. Our tour group is pretty cool.

Toomorrow we´re going to Caye Caulker in Belize. A whole other country.. an island actually. The reef is apparently nicer there. And our tour guide is going to introduce me to a lady in San Ignacio who runs famously awesome herbal cultivation courses ... if either of us remembers. Yay!

It´s Christmas over there so Merry Christmas everyone!!
Hope you´re all well and stuffing yourselves with yummy food and having fun. Lots of love!
