HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROXANNE!
Iīm in Cancun now. In our first hotel we each had separate rooms with two double beds each, air con, our own bathrooms, cable TV, a bar IN the pool and a big fat buffet breakfast each morning. Sweet deal.
Itīs not as I had expected it to be.. probably because we have avoided all tourist-packed areas. Have been into town a couple of times and itīs pretty dirty and crumbling with mores stray dogs than tourists. Which is nice. Interesting things happen in town. On the first day walking round town it poured down rain and since the drainage is crap.. the streets flooded and turned into rivers which made for fun but creepy times when we had to cross them. So we splashed around in puddles and got a bit lost in streets each wearing one REALLY slippery shoe.
Stuff stuff stuff. Cancun is not toooooo interesting. Probably just when compared to Barcelona.. and because I canīt wait to get started on the tour of the Mayan ruins and jungles etc. We were going to go somewhere like San Cristobal and explore the little mayan villages but itīs so far away and expensive and it would be a waste of the hotel we have paid for in Cancun. The second hotel we stayed in (the one we are in now) is a bit dodgy but itīs right on the bach. It has itīs own bar on itīs own private beach with lots of sunchairs and now Iīm burnt bright red. We found Kahlua at Walmart $10 for 1 litre. So weīve had lots of tasty kahlua in our bellies for the past couple of days.
Yesterday we didnīt go into town for the first time. Just stayed at the hotel on the beach and inside watching movies. I thought it was pretty lame and a bit frustrating but itīs a nice break and might be the last chance to do that before the tour starts. And I made a yummy stirfry with the most veggies Iīve had in this whole trip with lots of yummy tofu and garlic and ginger and yum yum yumm... etc.
