Goodbye Nicaragua

2007-12-13, Altagracia, Nicaragua

Well, tonight I get the boat from down to the Costa Rica border. I have to say I have really liked Nicaragua, it hasnīt disappointed.

Here on the Isle de Ometepe itīs just beautiful and Iīm really pleased that the place that caught my eye on Google Earth has turned out to be a real find. At times it sort of has a Lost World - Jurassic Park feel about it, canīt quite put my finger on exactly why but Iīm sure I wouldnīt be overly surprised if a T Rex appeared out of the jungle and started running alongside the bus .... well I may be a tad surprised but you get my gist ! Oh and by the way, when I was on about those big birds the other day I think itīs highly unlikely they are Quetzals because Iīve read that they are elusive and I donīt think me seeing them everywhere can count as elusive !

So, tonight I get on a boat from Altagracia all the way down to the South of Lake Nicaragua to a place called San Carlos (absolutely far too many Sans in Central America .... San Pedro, San Marcos, San Carlos .. Iīm losing track !) - the boat takes 10 hours through the night and we arrive at 4am - joy. I then find immigration somewhere and then jump on a boat down the river Frio to Los Chiles, the border town in Costa Rica. Iīm going to head down to La Fortuna and hopefully meet up with Dermot (from Seville Spanish school).

So, Adios Nicaragua and hopefully one day Iīll be back ... en route to Guatemala and Caye Caulker !!
