Merry almost Christmas

Greetings friends,

The Christmas season is upon us once again. There is something about Christmas that just makes my heart feel all warm and gushy. It is something about the smells and the songs, the cookies and candles that makes you feel so loved. This is going to be my first Christmas away from home, away from the snowmen and icicles, the Christmas lights and apple cider and most importantly my family. I am going to miss them greatly. My family is pretty amazing. We have way more fun together than any family I know. What other family plays charades with Worst Case Scenario game cards? Did you know it was even possible to act out “Being held hostage in a foreign country”, or “Being bitten by a poisonous snake in the middle of the Jungle?” Best game ever!

I am really excited about spending Christmas with the Hope house kids though. If they are this excited now, I can only imagine how excited they will be when Christmas is actually here!

I had such a great time last night with the kids. Who knew Christmas play practice could be so much fun!

We have a new point system at the Hope House; each bedroom is a team and can win points and lose points. At the end of each week I tally up the points and the room with the most wins. I announce the winning bedroom at Movie Night on Friday. I now carry around a notebook to write down the names of the kids who are misbehaving or who are behaving very well. All I have to do is take out my little book and the kids freeze! It’s wonderful. What is the prize? The winning bedroom gets to come up to my house, with their mommy, for a Saturday night sleep over. We have dinner together, drink cokes, play games, watch movies and eat popcorn. The kids love it!

Last night at our Christmas practice we were giving out points for the kids who could sing the songs with the right melody and without their papers. The boys got to pick which songs the girls had to sing and vice versa. They kept making each other sing Silent Night, they find that song really hard! At the end of the practice we brought the mommies up and offered 10 points for their bedroom if they could sing one of our songs and another 10 points for dancing along. The mommies got so into it. They were seriously busting a move! Even Madame Delva got on the dance floor. I have never laughed so hard in all of my life – what a great night!

We had our first practice with Pastor Claudel on the keyboards this afternoon. Wow, the kids could make a CD they are so good!

This Christmas Service is going to be amazing. I wish you could all be here to see it!

I miss you all and love you more!

Rachel
