Well, I flew from Managua to the Corn Islands for a few days. The plane seemed to fly at only about 1000 feet (probably well more) all the way there so I got some good views of Nicaragua.
Found a place to stay not far from Brigg Bay, not necessarily the nicest area on the island but a damn sight cheaper than the south bay.
The island was ok .... it´s difficult to describe, there are very few tourists which is a good thing in my book but on the downside of that it means in effect that the people who live there don´t quite realise that they are living on a beautiful carribean island with loads of potential. Therefore it was quite untidy with a lot of litter. I´m sure in 5 or 10 years time the place will be fully colonised by Americans who are buying plenty of land there at the moment. Having said all that you can never get enough of turquoise water and white sand beaches and I found a lovely little cove that I had all to myself ..... life´s not all that bad !
I only stayed there 3 nights, on the day before I left I had to confirm my flight back at the offices for La Costena, so I knew the offices were somewhere near the airport so I had a wander that way .... the road was taking me in a direction away from where I wanted to go, there was like a grass bank on my left hand side and I wondered whether there was anyway to cut across when I noticed that a couple of people were coming down the grass bank further up the road so I thought ¨hey, got myself a shortcut !¨
I walked up the bank and I saw tarmac and realised the shortcut was to walk across the runway ! Classic ! I glanced up and down, many people were walking across at various points. Got some good photos that I´ll upload once I can find a PC with a useable USB port.
The flight back was in an even smaller plane, one of those where you can reach forward and touch the pilot. An Eddie Izzard sketch came to mind about jammy dodgers .....
