since my last visit in cyberspace a lot has happened... I saw a Che Guevara exhibit just exploring all the different ways his image has been reproduced and used in the media and arts etc. Meh. Had beers with Kristin & Oliver, the english-canadian and french-canadian. I didnīt even know until then that Quebec existed, let alone all the kerfuffle between them and Canada. The french-canadian bartender is such an angry kid, always cursing and ranting about english-canadians. That aside, I want to go to Canada and skate down the longest man made canal in the world. We drank cheap wine at the fountain in Plaza Reial then went to a tiny little cafe in an alleyway and smoked an apple flavoured hookah and had beers and got mini headspins. Hooray for spins. We checked out a bar that might have had some good music but it was so packed that you couldnīt move and the the smoke was so sick you canīt see your own hand infront of your face so we bailed.
Next day I went to the cultural centre and they had 3 exhibits on. Babylon was the first and probably the best. All the different interpretations of Babylon were amazing. Lots of really interesting concepts and ideas and some really fun street art too. I have a big long list of notes that I took of what I saw because it was just too much to take in all at once, I forget things when I overload.
The second was about Apartheid in South Africa, and Iīve just finished White Thorn so that made it all the more interesting. In the end hallway there was 2 walls covered in literally thousands of names, years, nationality and cause of death for some of the people who have died in the past while trying to seek refuge in Europe or trying to escape deportation. So again, Iīm that crazy person crying in an art gallery. Possible lack of sleep.
The third was about Spains transiton from a dictatorship to democracy. Crazy days. Crazy world. I canīt be bothered going into detail. AND at the cultural centre shop I found a Camile Rose Garcia book!!! Which I am now the very proud owner of. I also held a Mark Ryden book but couldnīt afford it. Stuff stuff stuff food, balconies, more wandering, costumed people on la rambla, new friends, things and stuff like that.
Friday I went to the Dali museum in Figueres and ended up running around like crazy all over the train station with my friends, while only wearing one shoe because the other fell off. Of course the Dali museum was so strange and fun. He set it up himself in a ruined theatre and itīs a giant labrinth of strange and cooky art on every square inch of the palce. Things like corn and bath tubs in strange palces. It felt like being in a church, except Dali is the God and everything is upside down and inside out.
Then another tasty 3 course meal which included a HUGE serving of yummy vegetarian paella, creme de catalan desert and a whole bottle and a half of red wine. For only 10 euros
