My first taste of Spain

2007-11-23, Malaga, Spain

So after 30 hours in planes and airports I got to Malaga in Spain, got very lost, gave 20 Euros to a Gypsy (because Iīm so gullable and she had some big long story about aiplanes and passports and hirecars and I felt sorry for her) was nearly in a bus crash because my crazy bus driver had road rage and then I slept for 19 hours.

Next day I tried to walk about town in jandals in the rain and ended up just falling over alot because those cute little narrow cobble-stoned streets and alleyways get very slippery when wet.. and jandals just donīt grip. I was getting enough frowns at my feet just for wearing jandals so I didnīt take my shoes off. By the way, itīs effing freezing here and I didnīt pack enough warm clothes.

Anyway, I put my sneakers on and climbed the alcazbar.. something like an old castle with lots of things to climb and explore. So I spent many hours wandering around in there checking out the gardens and dungeons and views and climbing things I probably shouldnīt climb. Then I tried to get to Gibralfaro castle but I couldnīt find the lift so I walked up this MASSIVE long steep walk and I donīt know how to express how long and steep this walk was without swearing alot.. but it was hard. But it was also worth it. From the top there was 360 degree views all round of the town, the mountains and the ocean. It has a tiny walkway that runs atop the outer edges of the whole castle and I ran/danced my way around that in the rain with my shoes off.

We also went back to Malaga on the Tuesday and saw the Picasso museum, Picasso house and saw some more cathedrals and palaces and had more tapas and beer of course. Iīve never really been a huge Picasso fun but now I have a greater appreciation for his work.. itīs hard not to after seeing sooooooo much of it.
