Hiking in the Himalayas

2007-05-23, Manali, India

A 9 day hiking trip in the Western Himalayas. Was too exhausted to maintain a journal on a daily basis, so just a short summary...

The Route :

Manali(1950mt) – Prini – Tillgan - Sarrabhogi - Kokunallah – Oochi Bihaii – Juara – Hampta Pass (4300mt)

Slated as one of the most scenic treks into the Himalayas, this was a fairly challenging trek. With enough adventure built into it - hiking up a steep waterfall, passing through unbelievably green meadows, getting trapped in sudden outburst of rain which would dry up just as suddenly as they would come, cold sleepless nights in lumpy sleeping bags, snow capped mountains wherever you look, and finally hiking for 8 hours straight through knee deep snow! - I have to say I was filled with a sense of profound pride and of achievement on reaching the designated summit of Hampta Pass (4300 mt above sea level) .

An outstanding experience all in all.
