I would never think that it would be a blessing to understand and know how to communicate, until I came to Spain. The first weeks were hard getting adjusted stepping outside of my comfort zone and talking to Spanish speaking people, but now that I have been here I have definitely learned how to be content when I don't understand everything going on around me.

For example, when I talk to my Spanish mom I don't understand everything that she says but I usually get the point. But is not understanding every word a person says, does that mean I am not learning? No, I believe communication is about understanding the point of the message and if I person understands the point of the message, then I believe I can communicate.

I remember before I first arrived in Spain, that I had all my friends telling me, "you're going to learn Spanish so fast and you're going to have so much fun." Well they have one piece of the puzzle right, Spain is obviously so much fun; there is so many things that are new and different from what I have always known, so coming so Spain is definitely a life changing experience. Secondly though, the language is something that takes a lot of time and is frustrating at times and complicated, but you just have to take advantage and try to remember everything you learn. Of course sometimes you will forget verb conjugations and what not, but try to always speak the language. After all the reason you are in Spain is to learn Spanish.

This past week I had my first presentations in class where I had to get up and talk in Spanish and be confident in what I say, it was hard and I've learned that even if it takes a person a while to spit out the words it's important that you try to keep talking as much as possible.

Well today is Sunday, that means time to do a little Spanish studying :)
