This morning I moved into the much friendlier Grapevine Hostel along with my two new friends, Jana & Sudurika. For the most part I rested today, but I did wander around town for awhile to get my bearings. Dingle is one of the areas in Ireland known as a Gaeltacht, a region where the government subsidizes the survival of the Irish language and culture. While you can always get by with English, all the signs, menus, and songs come in Gaelic.
In the afternoon I met a really cool couple from Vancouver, BC (Mike & Monica) who were biking around the entire country for three weeks. I also met another German girl named Christina, and the six of us all went out for some traditional Irish music at one of the local pubs. This particular pub, An Droighead Beag (The Small Bridge Bar), featured a band with two accordions and one guitar (with a capo on the 8th fret!). You can't help but start stomping your feet to this music - the tunes are quite catchy. After putting back a couple of Guinesses and breaking a few floorboards, I got to bed early in preparation for tomorrow, when I plan on biking around the penninsula.
