What a long day! After staying up late hassling my bank to extend my withdrawal limit (so I can buy a van), and getting up early so I could call Paul at an reasonable hour (he wasn’t home), and then riding the bumpy and brisk 5.5 kilometers to work, I began my duties raking the Zen garden. My raking talent, which was kept suppressed until yesterday, must have been noticed, because I was told to hop into the Kookaburra exhibit and rake there too. My poop scrubbing skills also are quite excellent, so I was told to scrub the poop off of all of the branches in the exhibit as well! I spent the day doing similar things as yesterday, only I ducked away for coffee a few times to try to give my aching feet a rest.
On the way home I stopped at a bike shop to get some advice on how to get back and forth from the zoo without getting killed on Glasshouse Mountain road. The woman drew me a map, which was terrible, and asked me to write a letter to submit to Beerwah council to consider building a bike path. Not too long ago a zoo volunteer was killed while riding to work on that road. I think I will try to piece together some sort of trails map for riding along this stretch of the road. If nothing else I can give it to Cheryl at the Motel, and the lady at the bike shop, and maybe also the guy at the internet café, so that they have something to photocopy and give to people like me. All three of these people attempted to help me find a safe route, but were at a loss.
