| | | Elephant & Giraffe Sanctuaries | | | | | Today we were up about 7:45 and I went outside to see what was what and got the shock of a lifetime – an overland club employee actually working!! Annabel was in her overalls checking over the truck making sure everything was as it should be. If Kim had even looked at a pair of overalls she’d have keeled over and died! The good thing is she is very enthusiastic and answers your questions with something other than “I don’t know” or “I’m not too sure”.
We left for the elephant sanctuary with some others from one of the other tours starting at the same time and got there about 10:45 and saw some baby warthogs running around not too far from our van. There were loads of other people there and when the gates opened they all made a dash for where ever it was we were going. We got to an area that was roped off then about 5 baby elephants all legged it out from nowhere and knew exactly where they were going – Food! They were very bouncy and were running and falling all over the place. One was only a month old! Then when they were finished they brought out some 2 year olds who were very boisterous! At one point they knocked over two women and snapped all the ropes nearly sending people flying on several occasions! We had to move pretty sharpish to make sure we didn’t get stepped on!
We then left for the giraffe sanctuary, where the dodgy Egyptian student cards did their half price magic again. We went onto a big viewing platform and fed the giraffes by hand and got a few kisses and licks to add. It was a really amazing experience and topped of the day.
We went back to the campsite and met a Guro – a Norwegian girl who is with us for the next two weeks on the 2 week Gorilla Tour.
Tomorrow we leave Nairobi with a new truck and someone with a whole brain that functions properly and has a bit of get up and go rather than get up and gone! At last the tour can really begin!
