I have stayed here in Chengdu the longest. I was talking to a Brit who explained it perfectly - 'Sometimes you need a holiday from travelling' :) I have watched movies and walked the city, eaten good hot pot food, drank too much beer and thouroughly enjoyed my little home away from home.
Yesterday i went to teh People's Park with some people from the hostel. We got sucked into Chinese Line Dancing, which was, by the way, SO much fun. We actually drew a crowd! Funny looking foreigners trying to dance. Silly white people. :P Everyone goes to the park to hang out. They are incredibly social here. They do everything together. Play games, dance, tai chi, all at the park - kareoke too at the park! it was such fun! when i was hiking Emei Shan people kept asking me 'yi guoren?' basicly means 'one person?' Shock.
Today i went shopping with a fellow who wanted to buy something for his girlfriend. we were going to go to the Opera but decided against it, and guess what? we stumbled upon a free street Sichuan Opera! There was singing and then this dance where they blow fire and change masks really quick so it looks like magic. And a magician, and chinese acrobatics! These little guys scale these poles and slide down like they would fall and then they flip and flop off! it was so much fun to watch.
I have enjoyed my stay here, and it is time to move on. I head to the Guanxi province tomorrow to the rice terraces and the 'dragons backbone' from which i will cross the Vietnam border hopefully the end of this week beginning of next. South! to warm weather and beaches and what not!
Don't worry, Vietnam is safe as well as the rest of southeast asia! i have checked and asked around and know where Not to Go. Happy Trails!
