So we arrived at the Cape Trib beach house to find it really was in the middle of nowhere. The dorms were little hut type things scattered along a road through the rainforrest-cool but annoying when you need a wee at 4 in the morning and have to treck through the jungle in the dark to get there whilst trying to avoid the toads/snakes/lizards/crocs etc! So when we arrived i was pretty petrified! on the first day we just chilled around the pool and we went to the beach for about 3 seconds (my fault-i was paranoid about being eaten!) the next day we went on the rum runner boat out to the reef, we werent planning on diving but the guys were so good we didnt wanna miss out! so we ended up diving to 10 meters and got to hold a sea slug-the best part! other dives saw reef sharks but we didnt, im quite glad to be honest although i was hoping to see a turtle :( the next 2 days we chilled again, i spent 4 seconds on the beach this time! I did, however, venture onto the beach later in the evening to find Brenda, a friend we made, and i was just walking along trying not to be scared when i heard a rustling in the trees. I froze. Then out pops...yes of course, a cassowary! Now the last thing you do when near a cassowary is run- they will chase you at 65 km/hr and rip your guts out! So i walked incredibly quickly away whilst telling myself "dont run dont run" i headed towards the sea thinking that if it did want to kill me it wouldnt come in the sea-id only have to deal with the crocs then and they're easy :s luckily it passed by and dissapeared. It did give Brenda some stick later though! Tom spent alot more time on the beach than me and he wanted to see the cassowary too-no such luck though! The next day we did a thing called jungle surfing which is where you go through the forrest harnessed to a zip wire. You go slow for the first few then you do a fast one and an optional upside down one, which naturally we both did, whilst trying to murder as many marsh flies as possible! Later on we did a night walk-possibly the scariest thing iv ever done! Your in the middle of the forest with one guide who, to start with, tells you theres nothing that can harm you in the forest (hahaha) however as you walk through he gradually seems to remember what the things in the forest actually do and tells you explicitly about all of them! He also liked to make you turn off the torches so you were in pitch black listening to all the things crawling around next to you-i didnt like that very much :s but we survived! and we saw a snake, loads of huntsman spiders and even a golden orb spider, a bandicoot and a forest dragon so it was actually pretty good! On the last day we did an exotic fruit tasting trip on a nearby fruit farm. one word......peng! although most of the fruits dont actually grow here we didnt care-they were so nice i dont think we can ever eat an apple again! Dont ask me to name the fruits though! Leaving tomorrow...
Hello, Tom here. It is important to mention the following... We were in the middle of a travel famine, this is just fran and me, and we were struggling to find things to eat, due to the proximity to the middle nowhere and the price of everything. Luckily for Frances she discovered an item, and from the look on her face it could have been anything from gold to a baby koala. She had her back to me, but seemed to be jigging in excitment, i asked her to turn around so she did, clasping something to her chest and grinning. It was... a tin of beans and half an onion! Not just any old tin of beans, but a half sized tin of beans. My goodness i thought she'd won a pet koala. Also beacuse of this famine we had to get every bit of food we could. So naturally i'd scrape the pan of its contents, but not if it means standing and waiting for fran to get the last stray onion for 10 minutes! Now we're real travllers!
