| | | Moyale to Wajir | | | | | Well the night at the police barracks was ok (for us anyway!) We were told when we got here that they hadn't had rain in a very long time. Brendan and Marie didn't put the fly sheet up on their tent and hence at about 3am it started to rain. I couldn't help giggling to myself hearing them getting soaked in the pitch black trying to put it on as quick as they could!
We set out on an alternative route to head for Samburu National Park Via Wajir. We couldn't bush camp anywhere because of bandits in the area. It took 8 hours to get there but we got a glimpse of a small herd of giraffes just on the roadside as well as camels, ground squirrels and Maribou Storks.
Got to Wajir in need of some refreshment only to find it was a muslim town - non drinkers. luckily we had Peter our driver to show us how its done. We headed to a shop then through a gate to the back and sat down with a few beers. It seemed odd we had to be so secretive - alcohol is not illegal if you are a muslim so why hide? I later found out it wasd because the beer came of the back of a Kenyan army lorry and we were getting it at a cut price - 70 Kenyan shillings (about 50p) a bottle.
Went back to the hotel and had a shower with lots of frogs hopping around outside. Another early bed time (usually around 9pm) for another early start to Isolo a town near the Game reserve.
