Crossing Border Number 1

2007-09-30, Moyale, Kenya

We got up at 6am in Konso ready to head for the border. Hannah had a few G&Ts the night before so was a bit squiffy! It was raining a fair bit as it always does in Ethiopia and so it was the biggest mud bath you have ever seen with loads of washing still wet to add.

On the way we saw lots of Dik Diks and Guinea fowl and also termite mounds that were up to 5m high. We also had a major blow out. One of the tyres burst with the loudest bang i've ever heard.

We reached the border and changed up our ethiopian Birr for Kenyan shillings with some dodgy dealer in the back of the truck then headed for emmigration to get the exit visa stamped. Then we crossed the border and went to the Kenyan Immigration where they robbed us of $50 each.

We stayed the night at a police barracks and it was then that we were told we were going to have to miss the site of our first game drive as the road was too bad and we didnt have any more spare tyres and would be stuck in the middle of no where if we go0t another blow out. People weren't too happy with this and so we set an alternative route to minimise the damage - Game On!!!
