Hello dear friends! It's been a while since the last time but as you've figured out we are still travelling! We had a little break in Portugal and Holland and are currently in Thailand.
India We started the 17th of sep with the 4 of us (Dan and I, Peter and his sister Sanne from Holland) heading over to India... What an amazing country! The moment we stepped outside the airport I could almost kiss the ground (but didn't cause it was pretty dirty). What a great place to be, travelling through the world and seeing cultures that are so different from our own. And India is definitely different! Man, 1 day is like a whole week! So many impressions just by driving by.
We started in Delhi where we spend three days in the back of a filthy alley close to the biggest bazar in town. This city has as many inhabitants as in the whole Netherlands! Some impressions: cows, foodmarket, smell of pee, beautifully dressed women (in punjabis and saris), temples, kids asking for food, rikshas, bargaining the whole time, crazy traffic (no rules), hot food (Peter started sweating even when he smelled the food hihi) and hot weather... We've seen many countries but India is unique and we feel priviledged to have been visiting it!
Agra: a driver took us to Agra where we visited the Taj Mahal (will put pics on as soon as possible). The third of the 7 wonders of the world that we've seen. What an amazing building! Everything there is symmetric and beautifully designed! This man must have really loved his wife! I told Dan to do the same for me and he said 'sure honey!' So i'm happy hihi.
Jaipur: here we went to a YWAM base and have met really cool people! They just started a DTS with 6 students in two languages: Hindi and English. We had good worship times with them and also visited their church. That church was very impressive. The moment you stepped into that place you could feel God's presence! People were silently praying and worshipping Him before the service started. Women on one side and men on the other. These people know how to worship and the music was fantastic! People were all the time proclaiming God's awesome power in that place. I'm so thankful to see how God is working in a country that seems so dark. These people are carrying the Light! Our team could sing a song ('rejoice in the Lord always') and we left for...
Mumbai and Pune. We jsut spend one night in Mumbai (Bombay) and travelled a couple of hours to Pune. There we had the amazing opportunity to visit an orphanage for kids with HIV/Aids (beautiful kids!!) and a candlefactory called 'D-light' for women with HIV/Aids. A Dutch couple (Frank and Nicole Bakker) started their business there and are helping these people out. They live there with three little kids and we truly respect them for living in a country that seems pretty tough to do business in! We met a dutch guy (Eric-Jan) who is going to live there for a year as well to help out with the candle-making business. He showed us around and told about the ministries. Pray for them as they need encouragement to continue! We feel grateful to see all this work going on. We know there are not that many people working as missionaries but there is hope through the people that are working here! So please pray for them and their ministries!!
Cricket, Ganesh and new friends Dan and Peter also learned how to play cricket, the little boys from the orphanage taught them to! We've also seen two big parties: one was the fact that India won the final world championship cricket and the other was the next day when the people celebrated their god Ganesh and drowned thousands of idols in the river to say goodbye to them untill the next year. Music and colours were everywhere. We also met some new friends (Datta, Santos and their son ). We met them in the bus and they were very hospitable!! They invited us the next day to stay at least two hours :) It was great fun to see what their son is doing for work (he is a racecar designer!) and to taste delicious Indian food! Thank you so much dear family! We truly felt welcome into this country! May our God bless you!
And here we are, Thailand! Arrived yesterday! We are staying over at a ywamplace in Bangkok. It's pretty cool, the people are friendly and food is cheap :) Also, guess who is now travelling with us... Cesar from our South America team!! Yey, so from now on it will be the 5 of us travelling around! Today we figured out how we are ging to travel through Thailand and Malaysia. We will be doing some cool stuff (will write about it later, otherwise this will be too long) and meet different missionaries on our way down. Hope you're still reading this :) Here are some prayer points: * health in our team * spiritual security as this country has a lot of spiritwhorship... * The next step for the future and financial area (!) * for our families * missionaries we meet, that they may receive more strength and encouragement!
We love you guys! Thank you so much for reading and helping out! God bless Becky
