Finally in Cinque Terre

2007-09-09, Monterosso, Italy

Albana and i set off for Cinque Terre early doors... nearly sleeping in, well actually i did, after a night out with Simon at the local strip joint in Florence, Excelsior, i didn't get in too early! I slept through 2 alarms and was kicked out of bed at the third, we ran/jogged/fast walked and luckily caught the train... after 3 hours of sleeping/acting like a nodding donkey, we arrived at Monterossa and looked for the B&B... after having a bit of a nightmare booking a place in peak season, it was no suprise to find it was at the top of a great big hill, in which we decided to take the long route in the middle of the day... every cloud though... the beach was within smelling distance and i was ready to swim!

After an hour search for a supermarket that was open after 1pm on a sunday (even Conad was shut), we sacked it in and got a pizza (what a suprise in Italy), an even bigger suprise was that Albana didn't get a Salami Piccante Pizza... unbelieveable! After that didn't touch the sides.. it was rocky beaches and clear blue sea for a solid 4 hours.. no better way to relax (see Pictures)!!

In the evening we checked out the small town of Monterosso, not the biggest party town in the world (by far), so we made our own fun... so not better way then a hearty Spritz (as always) and Aperitivo looking out at the setting sun, we then stumbled across a Wine Tasting place, which seemed right up our street, more Aperitivo was eaten while we sat for hours discussing wine like we knew what we were talking about... "oh yes this is a much heartier, deep red, you can taste the Oakeyness in this one... please" We ended up agreeing the 2nd Cheapest was our favourite, shows how much we both know!

The night was ended with even more food (Seafood Rissoto), suprising that in Italy, at a resturant, which was cheap as chips (14 Euros' for the 2 of us), you just don't get that in England, you would struggle to get a tub of Cockles off Skegness Seafront for that!

The night came to an amusing end where for 5 mins we were stuck behind a human broken record... all she would say was "Si, Si, Si, Certo", (Yes, Yes, Yes, Sure!) to her friends! (i guess you had to be there!)

The next day consisted of more sunbathing and walking, before the dreaded trip back on the train...
