It has been 3 weeks since I journaled last. I have been very busy adjusting to my new home in China. I live on the 12th floor of a Dormitory (apartment) on campus. My teacher friends live below me and near the bottom floor are the students (during the week). I live about 45 minutes from downtown so it would be like living in a small town just outside the city i.e north Scottsdale (but not as luxurious). My school takes good care of me and I feel like a superstar because I am this American who is this handsome English speaker. Even though for those that know me it is not the case.

I have been working to improve my Chinese and hopefully will master the language in 1 year. I am considering living here longer just because of the benefits and experience I am gaining. I have met many people all of which are very useful if I ever need anything. I think I have found more work. There is a training center offering an English teacher part time hours. This job will give me a chance to expand my network of people. I hope I can use the experience to meet others who need help and eventually find a great job. In addition I have met some great friends along the way. The Chinese people are very willing to help and are curious about me. I try and be very goofy it is fun because I can always get someone to smile or laugh. I think this is my gift. In any situation, I can make the best of it and always get a smile or laughter. This makes learning Chinese very easy because almost always I am able to get involved in a conversation and it can be very rewarding because I have made a lot of new friends

I have really enjoyed the food. Being inn Shenzhen it’s a new city (26 years old) people from all over China has come here to try and start business or find jobs. This means the food is very diverse almost like Los Angeles. I love it that I can eat spicy food went I want, or some Hong Kong food, or Middle Eastern food or even some KFC or McDonalds (surprisingly they are not bad….) hahah. I frequent the Starbucks mainly as a good point to meet people or to use their free internet. I guess western businesses has its advantages (toilets, free internet, ect)
