The First Truck Journey to Bahar Dar

2007-09-08, Bahar Dar, Ethiopia

We Left Addis for Bahar Dar on the truck. It took us a day and a half to get there but seeing as there is only 7 of us we got lots of space.

The scenery was some of the best we've seen - we had to make our way along a gorge pass which was a bit hairy to say the least - we were at least a 1000m in the air on a cliff with loose gravel roads and lots of land slides. There was only a matter of inches to spare when you passed another vehicle! Hannah was pretty calm I think i now hold the recored for the worlds brownest pants! Lots of bridges to cross on the way where only one vehicle at a time can pass incase it collapses! We went through lots of villages on the way with lots of kids running after us and everyone waving as though they'd never seen anything like it.

We eventually reached our camp and pitched the tent along with Brendan & Marie. Brad kipped outside in his bivvy bag and the others on the truck coz they're wimps. The first truck based meal wasnt bad either - beef stew & veg.

Got up at 6am to start the second day of the journey - really bumpy and Marie knocked the new windows out as well. Eventually got to Bahar Dar about 2pm
