Hello everyone!
Seeing as I've been nagged enough, I am finally updating my journal. I hope this finds everyone well, and that the transition into fall goes smoothly.
I've settled into the Niland House and am currently in my second week of classes at National University of Ireland-Galway. Though, I should correct myself by saying that everything runs on "Irish time," meaning that nothing ever truly goes as planned. As of yet, however, the classes that my lecturers have shown up to have been quite interesting.
I spent my last weekend at the Aran Islands, where I spent my time biking around the 9 mile long stretch of beautiful land in amazing weather. I've also been spending my time planning trips with my roommates: so far, I've booked a weekend in Germany at Oktoberfest, and a few days around Thanksgiving in Athens. I hope to make it to a few other places, providing that my money doesn't run out!
In case it isn't obvious, I am having the time of my life. I love fitting it--in fact, a lot students ask me for directions because I look so Irish! And, for once, people automatically know how to pronounce my full name correctly! My freckles and ridiculously frizzy red hair no longer stand out, but allow me to fit in and not feel like so much of a foreigner.
I live in a flat with a girl from Austria, Kerstin, and a girl from NY, Kelly McMurray. Don't bother teasing me, because I realize how stereotypically Irish our names sound together. I spend most of my time getting to know the other students from Marquette, as well as the other students living with me in my apartment building. And, of course, we all spend a lot of our time in the pubs!
I'm off to Dublin tomorrow, but I'll return on Saturday and update then.
