We sat sail at the crack of dawn and went to have a look at the famous infamous dam. No matter how much I dislike the whole idea of damming the Yangtze, I was still impressed by the structure. The thing is not completed yet, which means that the water level will still rive about 20 meters. After having a look at the structure from both sides of the river, we finally took a ride. At a time, about 4 huge cruise ships can enter the ship lock, and it takes about two hours to pass from one end of the dam to the other.
I’ve seen the first and allegedly least impressive of the Three Gorges, Xiling Gorge. Considering that it was still huge, I wonder what it must have been like before they flooded the river. I’m sorry that I didn’t have a chance to visit earlier, but then again I’m glad that I saw it at least now.
This night I had a rather dubitable honor – I got to dance with the captain. Which as such wouldn’t be a bad thing, but he was a tiny little skinny guy with a uniform about 5 sizes to big, so we looked rather odd. And as it is customary on such cruises, they had an official camera guy on board. This means that whoever bought the memorial video has a pretty sequence of a very tall woman dancing with a rather short captain. This is what you get for dying your hair blond.
