I slept pretty well last night. The down comforter kept me very warm but the mattress did have an irritating speak to it that sounded like a small bird chirping every time I moved. I got out of bed about 8am and went downstairs to turn on the T.V. I put on the sports channel since Tiger Woods was playing somewhere and I figured the noise would wake mom and dad up and they would get a kick out of watching golf narrated in German. But to no avail, no one ever came downstairs. After the golf ended, there really wasn’t anything else on T.V., but apparently Pope Benedict XVI was visiting Vienna, Austria today so I watched the live broadcast of the Sunday mass in German. It looked like a pretty big affair on T.V. and especially after the mass was over and “Papst Benedikt” came outside to address the crowd. All of this going on, only 175 miles from where we were this morning. Once Dad finally woke up and got dressed, mom and I rushed to get dressed too so we could go into town and try to find someplace where we could grab a bite to eat and do a little exploring.
I drove us right into the center of St. Englmar and parked the car across the street from the local bakery that looked open. We only walked a few blocks before we decided on a nice looking restaurant in one of the local hotels. Being Sunday, most of the businesses were closed for the day so trying to find something open was a bit of a challenge. The hostess inside the restaurant said that they were open and showed us to a table next to the only other party inside the place eating. She hardly spoke a word of English, but luckily the lady in the party next to us did and assisted us in translating most of the menu before the waitress returned so we were able to order lunch with ease.
