Crossing The Atlantic

2007-09-09, New York, United States

A quick note: Today is the first day of the M.V Aurora’s Atlantic crossing. The only other time I crossed the Atlantic was on The Grandeur of the Seas on 7th September 2003. Why I remember the date so clearly is because that’s the day of my birthday and we were supposed to be heading to Cork, Ireland. The captain had received a severe weather warning and decided it would be best to head out to sea to avoid the brunt of the storm.

Reaching the U.S had been five days of the worst seas I have encountered then, and since. At this time of writing we’ve been chugging along at 20 knots for 17 hours and so far all is calm. I can see land of the starboard side, but can’t figure out where it could be? Have we been going round in circles?
