Today we went to the Teatro Olimpico which is here in Vicenza and it was so gorgeous that I almost cried…beautiful building… We also went to dinner as a group which was a lot of fun, we had a traditional Italian dinner at Trattoria Ponti Delle Belle which consisted of a primero which is pasta, bread, a secondo which is a form of meat I had veal meatballs that were sooo yummy, then salad or veggies, and a desert. It was a great evening and the dinner lasted a very long time but it gave time to talk to people and enjoy the food. The next day we had Dr. Massimo Ronconi meet with our class to discuss primary care medicine, hospital care and the physicians role in all of it which was very interesting and somewhat different from the states, I am very excited to visit the hospital on Monday and learn more. Thursday was probably the most eventful to date. We went to Venice and it was truly a once in a lifetime experience. It was beautiful and so different then anywhere I have ever been, people everywhere, boats, food, bridges, buildings, history, dogs, and of course St. Mark’s square which was a sight in and of it self and slightly overwhelming with all the people and the hundreds of fearless pigeons…the small group I was with got lost and ended up in a small neighborhood with no tourists and it was the best part of the trip, little kids playing soccer, old women, sitting on a bench talking and dancing, people working on boats, and a view to kill for…I enjoyed my visit there very much, in comparison to Vicenza it was much larger, harder to navigate and the influence of tourist activity was definitely present. Tomorrow I am going to Florence and to Cinque Terre for the weekend so I’m sure I will have more to report!
