| | | Mt Sinai - If I found it hard think what poor old Moses had to carry down it!!! | | | | | Well after chillin by the beach for several days on end we thought we better get active and do something. Last night we left the hotel at 23:00 and drove for 2 hours to prepare to climb Mount Sinai. We began about 01:30 and took what they said was the easier "Camel Route". We were absolutely knackerd after the first half hour but we had stops for water fairly regularly. Eventually we were told we had about an hour to go til we were at the top, our t-shirts were drenched with sweat. The last part was up lots of stone steps which were really steep and uneven. Its a good job we did it in the dark coz if i'd have looked to see how many steps were left i'd have given up. Hannah and I didn't talk for the last hour coz we had to concentrate on getting there.
We made it after about 3 hours and sat with our group plus a few more with blankets and cushions. Because of the altitude the sweat was freezing cold so we didnt sleep much when we were there. The stars and full moon helped us along our way and seemed even closer when we got to the top. There were even a few shooting stars winging around the sky. The sun rose at about 06:15 which was a really nice site when your at one of the highest points in Egypt. We then made our way down loads of stone steps to the bottom which took about an hour and a half. So steep it gave us jelly legs as we climbed down, whenever Hannah stopped her legs just shook then we couldn't stop laughing so legs got even weaker and we collapsed in a heap on the floor.
Got back to Dahab about 11:00 and chilled on the beach all day to recover.
