Finally arriving at London Gatwick on Sunday late afternoon , it was a 3.5hr flight direct from Thessaloniki. Greeting us at the airport was Adam’s good friend Peter and his girlfriend Lauren. They allowed us to stay with them until we found jobs and a place of our own, so we thank them dearly for their hospitality. Let us tell you, spending a pound when you are using your Australian dollars means you bleed in the places you thought you never would….

It was great to catch up with Peter and Lauren, who introduced us to London and showed us around...thank you so much.

London is a faboulos place, with so many sites (just think of the monopoly board) and fantastic architecture. This city is constantly buzzing as there are so many people, with a pub literally on every corner, great restaurants, cafes and an excellent transport system, not to mention London being a great base from which to explore greater Europe.

Speaking of transport systems, the London underground – referred to as the ‘the tube’ – was quite daunting to us at first. So many different lines, unlike Melbournes one and only ‘loop’ and trains come on average every 2 minutes. The only downside is the overcrowding and no airconditioning, meaning it is very hot and stuffy (I don’t think deoderant has made it to London). But now that we are confident using the tube, everything is literally at your doorstep.

The search for a job and a place literally started on Monday August 6. Seeing so many different recruiters in differing parts of London enabled us to find our way around this city. Dan was successful in getting a temp job and starting in 4 days on the Friday, meaning we could look for a place off our own to live. It took ads a little longer, but within 2 weeks he had a contract job for 6 months. The bonus was the place we found meant that we both could walk to work.

Our cosy little apartment is located in Bayswater (next to Notting Hill) with Hyde Park at the end of our street. We are just off Queensway road (you can look up Google Maps if you want a better perspective) with everything we need close by.

Being so busy now with work, we need to pencil in a weekend to see the sites of London…hopefully on the long weekend of August 27.
