So this past weekend was amazing. I went to the motherland (technically fatherland) (Italy). A small group of us took a bus Friday morning at O’dark hundred (6am) from Engelberg to Luzern. Then at 7:15 we took a train to Arth Goldau and then a train to Milan and finally to Bologna Italy. To start off the trip, when we were on the way to Milan, our train had to change engines, which meant that we would be late for our train to Bologna. So when we arrived to Milan, about a half hour late, we had to go to the customer service office, and in my most Italian way, we were able to get new tickets and get to Bologna about an hour after we planned. We checked in to our hotel that happened to be across the train station, very convent. After a walk around the city, which was not very big, we found a nice bar and I introduced my friends to Negronis. Dad you would have been proud because now they are hooked.
The next day we planned on going to Parma to tour around and see Parmagana cheese, Prochitto, and Balsamic Vinegar. We then found out the end of August is the time when many Italians go on holiday and nothing would be open. So we settled for Venice.
Venice was amazingly beautiful. It is so hard to explain how great of a city Venice is. We walked around the whole day. I fed the pigeons in St. Marco’s Square. Yes Damian, they are like rats. We also met up with a few of the other students who decided to spend their open weekend in Venice. All of us, eight of us, all got onto a Gondola and that was really fun. Later that night we got on the midnight train back to Bologna.
The next morning we went to the tallest tower in Bologna and we made the scariest climb to the top. It was so scary because it was all stairs and all the stairs were made out of wood that seemed to be the original wood. But we got to the top alive, obliviously, and the view was amazing. In the afternoon we got on a train back to Switzerland.
Our trip was so amazing and fun. It meant a lot to be in my motherland (sorry fatherland).
Right now I am waiting for the bus to arrive because this weekend we are going to Munich, Germany. I have a very strong feeling I will be drinking a lot of beer, but that is just my hunch. I can’t wait!!!!
Until the next time…………….
