The whole reason for my trip to Bali has started. 7 days of surfing, yoga, great food and a spa treatments. 6 other girls from around the world were sharing the experience with me. At first I was a bit nervous. I really couldn’t handle any more Meditation through Movement types. But I was in luck. The women were fantastic.
Together we had decided to dedicate a week to clear our heads of the careers, routines and men that plagued us, and instead master the waves, calm our minds and pamper ourselves silly.
According to Chelsea, the founder of the camp, our group was on the outer edge of lively-meaning that she had a bunch of talkative type A’s to manage. We took exercise seriously, drinks more so, and refused anything with less than 4 stars. We got along famously.
“S”-was an English sassy lass who has been traveling the world for…wait…..almost two years now. She had multiple “round the world” tickets and flew around surfing and riding and having a raucous good time. Her favorite medicine was a Chinese herbal tonic and her favorite lover a saucy mix of Columbian-Jamaican.
“C” was a rowdy girl from Cape Town, South Africa. She had just sold of her horses and ranch and used the proceeds to enjoy life. A career change was possible, but a career in itself was really not a priority. C seemed to be an all around adrenaline junkie. She’s planning to meet me in Vail in ’08 for boarding.
“D”-my roomie. D first introduced herself as a “workaholic.” This Singapore lady worked in the hotel business and had been to more exotic locals than I even knew existed. She was our walking Luxe guide. D also was uber prepared and was a walking medicine cabinet as well. I’m wearing her aloe cream and bandages right now.
“A”-The eldest and most beautiful of us all, we named her “Mama G” (for mother goddess). She was Pakastani-English and had been in Asia for 3 weeks for a portion of “S”’s travels. Successful and wise she gave us wisdom on love through tarot card readings, and advice on finances through her experiences in offshore accounting.
“L” A new york gal here to learn surfing in honor of her late mother. Her mother, before moving to the east coast, was one of the original San Diego surf chicks and had recently died quite suddenly of cancer. L was on a mission to learn her mother’s craft and she was a natural in the water. Likely doesn’t hurt that she practices ballet and hip hop dancing daily at home.
“K” is a self proclaimed hippy from southern California. Her husband bought her this trip for her birthday in recognition of her need to get back into surfing and have experiences for herself. Damn, if we all didn’t love her husband. K had already done much surfing and yoga and was ready to give tips and tricks to any that listened.
The women were great, the surfing divine, and I knew the next week was going to be a complete blast.
