Two years ago near the end of a two month trip we were glad to get somewhere which had internet access for two reasons. One, a hurricane was bearing down on our place on the coast of Texas,and two, we wanted to back up pictures from our old Sony Mavica floppy disk camera and upload them along with stories to Travel Journals Net.
We discovered three places at that time that sold internet access. Kasane Computers was the best of those for several reasons, and remains so to this day. One, the internet connection is the fastest. Secondly, the people who work there are used to dealing with foreign travelers and their needs. Finally, it is air conditioned on hot afternoons!
Owners Teenie and Karen and their staff are more than willing to help you with your technical problems as well as provide equipment for international calls, faxing, and many other service. Check our Kasane Computers website. You can use your own laptop if you like. Teenie is a tech head who has big plans for expanding wireless in the Kasane area! If you are in Kasane with a technical problem, he or Karen are the ones to consult with!
Rightly so, they charge more than other internet cafes. We also tried out several others that were either closer to Chobe Safari Lodge Campsite or were open on Sunday, which Kasane Computers is not.
The cheapest internet cafe was in the same shopping center with the new Choppies grocery store, and was the closest for us. However, the staff was busy copying cds, listening to online music and videos, and this really drug down the internet speed.
Broadband Internet Cafe is the has an African style decoration was further away but still close. The building was decorated with a more tropical feel. The staff was very helpful and their speed was faster, and they were open on Sunday and later at night than others. They also sold snacks and drinks, and the staff was very helpful! They let us charge our camera batteries. They have phone fax and other services as well.
The most expensive was located inside Chobe Marina Lodge, which is where we like to go for snacks and drinks because of the view and the beautiful buildings. They only have one computer and we did not use it this trip.
Finally, if you are going to the Spar and need to change money, use the internet, or rent a video, there is Cape to Cairo internet place.
A note on paying for phone us. The phone management system used by both Kasane Computers and Broadband Internet Cafe keeps you from accessing an automated menu once you get a recording at an airline or credit card company. As them if it is possible to use one of their direct dial phones.
