Today we drove to Taupo early morning and arrived there by 10.30am, we went to the local shops and had a look around. We also stopped at Huka Falls, powerful rapids before ending in a waterfall. It was amazing to look at, as apparently 250,000 litres of water flows through it per SECOND! It also powers 15% of NZ's electricity!
We then decided on impulse to go on a helicopter ride around Taupo!!
We booked through the information centre and they told us to be at the helicopter place for 1pm. So we had a quick lunch and then went to the helicopter meeting point. When the helicopter went up and flew over Taupo...WOW it was incredible!
We saw the Huka Falls from above and the pilot took us over Taupo Lake (Popular for fishing), which was massive and the water was so clear. We then went over to a mountain and the pilot flew over the top, that was really cool!
We also went over a big sulphur lake which was green! We landed in a place called Crater of the Moon, which had large craters with boiling mud at the bottom, it stank of rotton eggs but we've gotten used to it by now!!!! We got back with massive smiles on our faces, we would do it again if we could afford it!
Afterwards we went to find a campsite to stay for the night, we stayed in one with a lovely heated swimming pool. When we got settled in, we went to the pool straight away and stayed there til it got dark! It was amazing to be swimming under the stars.
