Guatemala boarder crossing

Left Mexico for Guatemala! We had only 2 weeks in Mex as we were hoping Guatemala would be more cheaper, and we were right! Love that exchange rate... Crossed the Mexico boarder near Polenque by bus, then boat then another bus, getting ripped off my the Guatemalan boarder guard. They pretend there is a fee to enter and put the money in their back pocket. Big lesson for the next few times we would be coming in and out of Guatemala. They can only fool us once!

Beside that, it was an easy crossing and we soon made friends with an English couple, Jo and Berkeley who were also making their way to Flores, Guatemala. Bus blew a tire just before we arrived in Flores but made for some great photos of the group sitting on the side of the road! Then after arriving, the bus company demanded more money off our new friends, saying the didnt pay enough. It was some great entertainment for awhile watching everyone argue, and us English speakers having a laugh at this unorganised bus company, up until they bus people mentioned calling the police.... hmmm....

Found a great floating restaurant where the English couple, Vorn and I stayed for a few happy hour drinks. Really pretty spot, and soon became a īregularīplace that we ate while in Flores. Dadīs birthday on Australia time so attempted to use the stupid phones with no luck!

Next day - tour of Tikal ruins were amazing! We had a great tour guide who was so passionate about what he was telling us, and we got to climb a few of the temples in the area. One of the temples was actually used for one of the Star Wars movies. Not that I have watched them.... More happy hour drinks that night, with one extra person, Matt (another pom), but he was cool and we ran in to him again in Belize. Another early morning bus, crossing over to Belize, and another boarder crossing, yay! The one good thing is they speak English in Belize and they have the Caribbean to swim in....
