Recap of this weekend

2007-08-06, Valencia, Spain

I had a peaceful weekend here in Valencia by myself. On Friday, I decided to go to the beach in Valencia to soak up some rays. Then later that night with nothing to do, I decided to go out to a club in the trendy-upscale part of town. This was interesting because it is vacation time in the city so many of the people have left. This meant that the club wasn't happening at 2am like it should have been. So I left and went home.

Saturday, I got up late and decided to see the park that goes through the city. The park was once a riverbed, but now has been turned into a park because of a flashflood, so they have moved the river south of the city. The park was nice because there were many themes in different parts of it. There was the athletics theme. There was the children's park and then the cultural part of the park where there were the musuems. After that, I decided to go to the Natural Science Musuem which turned out to be another park. It was actually better than the first park that I went to. So I went to bed early on Saturday to prepare myself for my beach and wetland excusion. So I got up and headed to the bus. Apparently I was give wrong directions. So I spent 1 hour looking for the right bus stop in 100 degree heat, which ended up being 50ft from where I took a wrong turn. So with that behind me, I went to a small town on the outskirts of Valencia called El Saler. The beach there is supposed to be the best in the area. So I went there and found out it was true. The water was crystal blue. I have never seen this from a mainland beach except for parts of Southern Florida. So it was nice to hang out and read and relax in the water...by myself. The beach in El Saler even had sand dunes...I couldn't believe it. I thought I was in Michigan agian...until I heard everyone talking in Spanish. Then I went to the wetlands (La Albufera) to see what it was about.

I heard that it was a protected area because there were migratory birds and fish that were supposed to jump out at you. So I decided to take a boat ride around the wetlands to get a first hand view of the birds. I did see one fish jump out of the water...well more or less kinda swim fast on the surface. There were a lot of birds. I don't know the names of any of them. They weren't really interesting to me.

So then I hopped back on the bus to go back to the city. Ironically, the route that the driver took were the same streets that I got lost on...hmmm. So it turned out to be an advantage to me because I knew where I was going. So I then hopped on another bus and came to my doorstep.

That is all in all my weekend...by myself.

Next up, Ibiza!!!
