After a long drive from Nafplio, we arrived in Delphi. Delphi is built on the slopes of Mt Parnosses, overlooking the Gulf of Corinth and extending into a valley of cypress and olive trees. The ancients regarded Delphi as the centre of the world; according to mythology, Zeus released two eagles at opposite ends of the world & they met here.
We saw the ruins...Temple of Apollo, Ancient Theatre, Stadium & Sanctuary of Athena, all built in the 4th century BC. Its amazing how old theyare...although not much is left standing.
After spending a couple of hours being all ruined out, we decided to drive down to the small town of Itea, on the Gulf of Corinth, some 18klms from Delphi. Here we went for a frollick in the towns pebbled beach. The water was so warm and so clear. Very refreshing after doing so much today.
