From New York we travelled to the British Virgin Islands via San Juan.
Although the hurricane season has apparently started the weather has been fine and hot every day with the odd shower or two (which last for no more than 5 minutes or so).
The Catamaran has been a lot of fun and is also very comfortable. It is 44 feet in length, has 4 pretty good sized double cabins, each with a bathroom nearby. The kitchen (sorry - galley!) is also well equipped and there's a small BBQ so we've been able to cook quite a few meals on board. We have usually been fairly close to villages and towns for other meals and supplies.
I suppose I should explain where we've been. The BVI are made up of about 6 or 7 larger Islands and probably a hundred or so smaller islands. We have travelled to each of the main Islands spending a day or so in each mooring.
Pip and I have tried a bit of fishing from the boat but we have decided that the fish are probably to smart for us! The snorkelling has been okay- probably not quite as good as I expected (not as good as Fiji!). Although we saw some great sea turtles this morning, and swam amongst an enormous school of small fish being herded by a massive barracouta.
The beaches hare all been postcard perfect. On Friday night we had lobster for dinner which was a real treat.
All in all, we've had a relaxing ten days with Kate's family. Now it will be back to the road trip (Rome - Gulf of Napoli (Sorrento) then across to Greece).
