So the trip to Frankfurt was really nice. I enjoyed myself there. During the visit, I learned that the city is the Economic Capital of Europe. With that said, there was a lot of money flowing through the city. There also was a lot of people that were left out of that money begging on the street. We stayed in a hostel, which was my first in Europe. I enjoyed myself. I met some cool people. The hostel was really nice for the amount of money that we spent on it....€22 ($33USD) a night. It was four people in a room, so it wasn't that bad. We went shopping because the shopping was SO cheap compared to Spain. On our stroll down the shopping district, we happened to find a parade passing through. We saw so many manly women and feminine men. I didn't think anything of it because this is Europe and most of the men are feminine by American standards. Then I saw the rainbow flags and the light bulb went on. We were in the middle of a Gay Pride Parade. So what was the next thing that we did...watched the parade because it was more interesting than the shopping. Since it was José's birthday, Kameelah, José and I went out to celebrate it at a club...two of the three nights that we were there. One night, we happened upon a club that was called the best in town. We get there and we quickly realize that it was gay night. Not wanting to ruin a good night and spend more money to go to another club, we just stayed. It was a fun night. There were two rooms, one had techno-trance music and the other had a DJ that played top 40 dance music. There were so many characters there, gay and straight. There was this guy that could have been Boy George's (Culture club era) little brother. He thought he was so inventative with his outfit.
So anyways, we accomplished many goals in this trip... 1. Eating frankfurts in Frankfurt. :) My favorite goal! 2. Celebrate a birthday with style. 3. Shop. 4. Experience a taste of Germany.
We also made some notable observations about Germans. 1. They are fat like Americans. 2. They have similiar featurs like Americans. 3. They eat the same foods as Americans. 4. They don't act like Americans. 5. German domestic beer is no better than American... ok, maybe a little, but not by much. 6. They don't age really well. 7. Pretzels and hot dogs are german.
So that is the end of my adventures across Europe. Now, I'm probably in Spain until I leave because I'm running low on funds and it's either traveling or shopping. I took the later.
So this weekend the boys from Madrid are coming to visit us and we have to show them a good time.
