Hi everyone,
That's it - all done! My bags are packed, I've handed in my keys to both my appartment and the lab, I've said my goodbyes, and in about 5 hours I'll be on my way to the airport to leave France. I'm still very behind with journal writing (as you may notice the entry for Paris two weeks' ago only got put up today), but I wanted to let you all where I currently am headed for. I'll catch up on the text eventually, but the photos are all up to date, including the rest of Paris, my last two weeks here in Toulouse, Bastille Day weekend, and the evangelism campaign 'Espoir pour la ville' which has been taking place in Toulouse this week.
Talk about last minute - in the last 20 minutes I had at the lab today before leaving, Jean-Christophe and I finally put together some reasonable-looking graphs of the data I've produced while being here. It was so exciting! A bit rushed, but I will continue with the analysis in NZ. I just came back from church where tonight's campaign event was a concert by the choir visiting from Quebec, and helped to set up for the pancake breakfast tomorrow morning. More on the campaign later!
I'm now at Tim's place where I'm staying tonight so that I can get to the metro in time (5.20am) to get to the airport for check-in. My flight to Frankfurt leaves at 7.15am, and then I have a couple of hours transit before flying to Vancouver where I will meet up with most of the bee team from Zoology in Dunedin and where we are all attending the "Eighth International Congress of Neuroethology" at the University of British Columbia over the next week. Edith (the Phd student who gave me my training here) is also going, and is on both the same flights as me, so we will meet bright and early at the airport tomorrow and check in together.
In many ways I'm really sad to leave France. There are so many people and so many things I will miss here! At the same time it's good to be heading towards home - even if it's still over a week before I get to NZ. I hope to have email access in Vancouver and will write from there. In addition to the conference, I have a couple of friends from Dunedin who live in Vancouver that I am planning on visiting during the week.
I bid you all au revoir from la belle France! Love and God bless, Lisa
