We literally had to rip the covers off the kids in 30 hotel romms to get them up for the orientation. They were so exhausted from the day before and we all felt sorry for them but there were things that needed to be done!
After breakfast (they were dumbfounded by the donuts which some people eat for breakfast here) we began our 9 hour orientation on culture, starting school in a foreign country, living with a host family and of course, rules of the program.
They were really good, certainly handfuls but that's to be expected. They had many questions and sometimes looked thrilled, other times terrified.
That night we took them to another hotel for dinner on the roof & we brought ina DJ so they could dance and really exhaust themselves (nice when you don't have to chase them all over the city in the midle of the night). It worked. They all passed out before midnight.
We worked until 2a.m. planning the next day. I was so happy wen I finally could get to sleep...then the phone rang at 3:30a.m. It was the German office. Then the phone rang at 5:30 a.m. It was teh Danish office. Needless to say - I was a wreck when I got my 6:30 wake up call the next morning.
