hallo people!
dobar dan from croatia - my lovely home for the next month or so and the land where everyone, in some odd and scary way, is somehow related to me. They are everywhere and my conclusion is i have too many relatives/or/ we should stop breeding malenica's. concidering that there was 7 brothers - each had at least 3 or 4 kids - then they have kids and so on and so forth... its alot! plus my grandmothers side of the family... its all a bit overwhelming, however, i have managed by some miracle to pick up the tongue again and i am on the right track to putting english as my second language..... pause... NOT!.
so my first few days were spent here in zagreb, the capital, and its a lovely town with hills and stairs and more stairs (ill complain about them alot over the next few minutes)... but ive walked almost everywhere around town and done some shopping and bought some gifts for people. Its beautiful here and has very very old buildings and cathedrals and its just relaxing - but hot.
soon after i bused it to OPATIJA - the city by the sea... this is where i began to feel most at home... its truly beautiful there and i had many adventures swimming, sunbaking, swimming, swimming, sunbaking.... some more swimming.. haha im sorry to rub it in but you are all stuck in the cold.. and i have a tan and am sweating like a pig at this very moment. its truly truly the best thing ever. Anyways, so i met my great uncle and aunt (i dont know what else to call them) and they were extremely cool.. their son davor was awsome.. hes so so funny - as soon as he met me he was like "ohhh we can find you a nice rich man and marry you off..."... my reaction being the obviouse and telling him that i am happily in love with someone, he swiftly replied "oh dont worry.. we will send him a nice note"... hes a crack up!.. anyways we explored the town and i got to meet his lovely wife - WHO SPOKE PERFECT ENGLISH, thank god!... davor took me on his super cool motorcycle and drove me everywhere including up the massive, huge mountain called iska??? anyways it was very very very high and there were many turns and twists - all very fun when your going very fast on a motorcycle... annnnd then we went to the town of 'HUM - THE WORLDS SMALLEST TOWN'.... it was really cool and we found a house that had my last name on it - exciting!... and i got to see 2000 year old buildings and ruins and old old croatian inscriptions- all very exciting for a history student..
and now im back in zagreb and heading to OSJEK in the east (too hot to go but i gotta).
everyone is constantly shoving food down my throught and telling me i dont eat enough and telling me that croatian men like girls "with meat on them" and so on.. which i just roll my eyes at.. its pretty annoying. but the food part is good - i think i wont put on too much weight concidering everywhere i go there is friggin STEPS!!... EVERYWHERE!.. for those of you who know how much i HATE stairs.. you can imagine my reaction to these situations - argh!... its very very very tiring.
anyways thats whats been going on in sandra world - only 5 weeks till i come home! YES, i said 5 weeks! haha.
love and miss you all!
