My trip started early this morning at 6:30am when we left Melbourne heading towards Torquay, home of Quicksilver, Roxy, and Rip Curl, for breakfast and shopping. I looked but didn’t buy anything however with all of the surfer gear I couldn’t help from thinking of all the surf shops in Ocean Isle Beach and miss home just a bit. We continued along the Great Ocean Road to Bells Beach, famous for its great surfing waves and recent home to the Rip Curl World Surfing Champions. The waves at the beach were amazing. We stopped to see some wild koalas before passing through the seaside town of Lorne on our way to Apollo Bay for lunch. Next we hit the cool temperate rainforest of the Otway National Park and spent some time at the magnificent Otway Fly, a 25 meter high elevated tree top walk. We ended the day by trying to watch the sunset over the Twelve Apostles rock formation on the Great Ocean Road but to due to clouds we missed it. Unfortunately it rained and was cloudy the entire day but we did get to see quite a few beautiful rainbows over the ocean. We stayed the night in a hostel in Princetown, a tiny town along the Great Ocean Road, and for dinner had a great Aussie bbq of burgers, sausages, and chicken. I shared my room with a newly married couple, Sanna (from Finland) and Igor (from Brazil), and Joan (from Ireland).
