I can almost imagine being here in the 70s when Dahab was a notorious hippie haven. Although it is a lot more touristy now, it is still an extremely chilled out place. The barren mountains transition to vast desert and abruptly end in the red sea where the underwater world is the polar opposite of the landscape. Beautiful coral reefs teeming with fish. We got our Open Water Certification, and were addicted. We had to follow up with the Advanced Diver Certification so we could go down to 30 meters… It just had to be done. We descended through caves in the reef, and got off on the Nitrogen Narcosis effects. Diving is the most incredible feeling, not only is it amazing to behold the wonders of nature, but to be able to do so in any position imaginable without effort is something else. Our time on land consists of milkshakes, shisha smoking, seafood, exchanging travel stories with the other divers, and basically doing as much of nothing as possible. It is also nice to be paying a mere $1.20 US for our bungalow… Love it.
