Also consisting of two sides Railay East and West is a short boat trip from Phi Phi, and more part of mainland, than island. Railay East accommodates for cheaper living due to the fact that there is no beach, and people flock to the West side to enjoy swimming and tanning. With not that much to do, we decided to make this a short stay, and checked into the Viewpoint Bungalows for two nights only.
We didn’t have definite plans or arrangements from there on, but decided to take a trip to Ao Nang which is a short distance from Railay. Fortunately we were just in time to catch the last boat as the weather took a turn toward the rainy side and waves were getting too big. Ao Nang is a lovely little beach village with much more to keep yourself occupied with than Railay. It doesn’t have the paradise look to it, but there is a main beach with the same great qualities as beaches in SA. It has plenty of accommodation and restaurants to choose from, and also shops, stalls and various pubs. Some exploration led us to find a pathway to another beach on a wooden built trail that leads round and partly over a mountain. On our way there we met up with a few monkeys and also came upon the infamous Ao Nang massage parlours that are situated on the beach. Along with fellow South Africans, and some Aussies we watched Saturday’s Rugby match between SA & AUS in an Irish Pub on SuperSport 1!
We feel quite at home here and decided to stay until we leave for Bangkok early next week.
Thanks to all of you who followed us throughout our trip! Especially for those who left guestbook messages. We appreciate that you enjoyed reading our journals as much as we did in creating them!
