In the past few days we´ve been travelling quite a bit. We left Playa Del Carmen on the 3rd and headed to Valladolid. It is a small Mexican town along the way to Chichen Itza. While we were there we visited the Cathedral, the Museum, and the central park. Plus, our hotel had a pool and we swam to get away from the heat.

On the 4th of July we took a bike ride from Valldolid to some of the Cenotes around town. Cenotes are deep pools of fresh water. Some of them are open air and some are in natural limestone domes. We went to one that was in itñs natural dome. it was great because from the small opening at the top trees were growing down about 50 feet to the pool below.

After the swim, we jumped on a bus to Chichen Itza, about an hour away. the bus dropped us off at the entrance to our hotel and we were soon in our room and back out to the pools for more swimming.

As it was the 4th of July and we didn´t have firewroks, we thought the light show at the ruins would be close enough so after an afternoon of swimming we headed to the ruins. The light show highlighted different important buildings and showed the effects of the shadows during the equinox on the main temple. During the equinox the temple looks like a snake is coming down the stairs.

July 5th, we spent at the ruins. We got up early to avoid the heat and the crowds. Corban´s favorite was the tall, pyramid like temple and chris´ was the ball court and temple of the warriors. We then took a nap since our hotel was located right at the entrance to the ruins and headed back for one more look. Of course, we spent the afternoon swimming in one of the hotel´s 3 pools.

We´re in Merida now. We´ll explore the city a bit and then head out tomorrow on an overnight bus to Palenque in the South.
