Eric, Corban, and I arrived safely in Cancun Saturday evening and headed straight for a neighboring city, ¨Playa Del Carmen¨ where we stayed for the last few days. The first day was all about the BEACH (We needed the rest after all the last minute preparations for the trip and the last week or so working on our new place). We tried to get up to see the sunrise, but we missed it by about 30 minutes. After breakfast we went to the beach and stayed until lunch time. For lunch we ate on our patio in our hotel and played cards to avoid the sun for a bit. Then we went back to the beach until sunset. At about sunset time the neighboring hotel hosted a wedding on the beach and so that was great to watch while we were swimming. Yesterday we went to XCARET. This is an amazing natural park. It has lots of places to swim, aquariams, Mayan ruins, a mayan village, and all sorts of things. We went to the underground rivers and snorkled. It was interesting to see how deep some of the places were and watch fish that we usually only see in an aquarium. Then we had lunch-dinner at the buffet and watched some sea turtles. In the evening they have a big show about the history and cultures of Mexico so we went and saw that too. It was one long day and believe it or not we didn´t even see everything.
Today we are off to a smaller town away from the beach called Valladolid. Then off to the ruins of Chichen Itza tomorrow.
