Palermo - not quite the seaside resort Merrin was thinking of! lol with it being home to approx 1 million people (plus the Mafia)
Off the boat taxi drivers all competing for business - first one offered us 3 hours for 150 euro we walked away from him! In the end we got 3 hours for 100 euro (split between the 2 couples a good deal and a lot cheaper than the ships excursions - Deb I'd make a fantastic travel agent)
First stop Capuccini Catacombs (google it) (Merrin not quite sure why that was the place I'd chosen to see on my birthday) Morbidly fascinating it the best way to sum it up! From there to Monreale Cathedral - now this would have to be one of the most equisite buildings/churches I've ever entered! The detail of the mosiacs had to be seen to be believed, whats more this building has had Arab, Norman plus many more influences! Most impressive! Few more sights etc of Palermo before Zach fell asleep on me in the taxi - we were able to successfully transfer him from me to the stroller to his bed! (Aunty J - the sheet is the best ever)
Lay poolside and read my book whilst Zach slept. When he woke we took him for a swim (he loves the pool here)
Got dressed up in our 'posh' clothes for formal photos (and yes we spent moon beams to by them all so our parents can all have copies of us looking posh)
Did the Zach 'handover' as Kyle and Merrin had kindly agreed to Zach sit so Mark and I could go to the formal dinner in the main dining room - very pOsh indeed! More knives, forks, spoons and glasses per serving than I've ever seen! Lucky I was dragged up proper and knew which was for which. Our table compainions were the Russian Ice Queen and the Russian KGB head honcho (or so we nick named them) couldn't crack a smile out of them - let alone a conversation!
After a lovely dinner in the dining room over looking Captain Franks table we met up with Kyle and Merrin in the 'Pig & Whistle' (pub) (I stayed away from the apple martinis this time) then went to the La Scala theatre for Ole Ole (Bev the shows and costumes on this ship have to been seen to be believed you'd love it)
